sound the siren winners

Two teams of students from Hubbard High School have been recognized for their work in the Trumbull County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s (SPC) “Sound the Siren on Suicide” Student PSA Video Contest. This year’s challenge encouraged students in grades 9-12 to address the impact of loneliness and social isolation while providing hope and strategies for increasing connection and a sense of belonging. The video submissions were judged on content, technical quality and creativity, including a written brief that explained each team’s vision.

Taking second place were Taila Odem, Rome Odem and Cassandra Phillips, earning $750 to split among the team and $250 for Hubbard Schools to invest in mental health resources. Click the image below to watch the video.

The SPC continues to emphasize the urgent need for awareness—suicide deaths in Trumbull County have doubled since 2021, with 32 lives lost in both 2023 and 2024. Initiatives like this contest are a critical part of their mission to provide hope, support, and life-saving resources.
