vfw award

In August 2023, the Hubbard VFW Post 3767, in collaboration with Hubbard Schools, established the "VFW Unsung Hero Award" to recognize staff members of the Hubbard Exempted Village School District. This award honors all school employees, including bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, secretaries, nurses, paraprofessionals, guidance counselors, school resource officers, and teachers, whose dedication ensures the safety and well-being of students.

"The Unsung Hero Award was created by the veteran membership of Hubbard VFW Post 3767 to honor support staff in our school system—those who keep kids safe and the school running smoothly. From bus drivers to cafeteria workers, maintenance, cleaning, and office staff, we wanted to recognize the dedication and efforts of these often overlooked individuals, showing them that their work does not go unnoticed,” said Joseph Warminski, Commander of VFW Post 3767.

At the end of the 2024 school year, district staff had the opportunity to nominate their peers for the award. Members of the Hubbard VFW carefully reviewed the nominations and selected the first recipient. On September 23, 2024, during a staff assembly, VFW Commander Joe Warminski and other VFW members proudly presented the inaugural award to Hubbard High School secretary Yolanda Resatar.

“The Unsung Hero Award is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our dedicated support staff. We are grateful to the Hubbard VFW for partnering with us. Seeing Yolanda receive this recognition was a proud moment for our district," said Superintendent Raymond Soloman.

“The entire process was a pleasure to work on with the VFW members. Being able to see Yolanda get called up to the stage in front of the district and receive the recognition we all know she deserves was another example of why we should all do more to thank those around us for all they do,” said Josh MacMillan, Hubbard High School art instructor.

Resatar was presented with a trophy, flowers and a $500 check.
